Pinch Pots - Regular and Organic
When creating a pinch pot, you should start with a baseball-sized chunk of clay. Throw it back and forth between your hands a couple of times to achieve a round ball. Before pinching, push your thumbs down into the center of the clay. REMINDER: Never put your pinch pot on the table until you have finished. When your thumbs reach about half a centimeter from the bottom of the pot. Start pinching your fingers outward, slowly moving to the rim of the pot. While you're pinching, keep the clay moving in a circular motion while you work. A succesful pinch pot includes even sides, so make sure the clay has an equal thickness. My second pinch pot had slighty more detail than my first because of the unique rim. While this finishes your regular pinch pot, an organic pinch pot takes more detail and different ideas in order to incorporate your ideas into the design. For my organic pinch pot, I was inspired to do a jack o'lantern in the spirit of Halloween.
